Simple Must Have Tees

Simple Must Have Tees

As you know I have a slight obsession with The Rollin' J Boutique. They always have the cutest western style graphic tees and my favorite clutches on earth! They have once again done it again with their new arrivals!! These three simple tees would be staple pieces to any ranch girl's closet!

My personal favorite is the Sunday Siesta tee. You all know I'm a sucker for a great cactus tee, and any mention of a nap and I'm sold! This tee is made of super soft material and will be great for days of lounging around or a day of errands. It's been said that if you want it a little extra baggy to go up a size. This is definitely going in my shopping cart very soon!

Yet again another point for a great cactus tee...see what I did there! Hehehe along with cactus you gotta have a little sass! I'm sure I'm not the only one out there who enjoys a little humor. I love the v neck of this tee as well. This is something I could use a little more of in my wardrobe.

Last, but certainly not least, the cutest "Branded Tee." This shirt can be near and dear to a girl's heart, well if she had her own personal ranch's brand on it. This tee is a comfy destroyed material. Also it is printed a men's shirts, so be sure to go down a size for a better fit.

All these great tees are under $50! You can't beat that! I hope you have a great Friday and weekend! Also be on the look out for something new here at Western Homestead, designer spotlights. If you know of anyone or even yourself who would like their designs featured please email me at jordan@westernhomestead.com.

Fall Fringe Bags

I know I'm not the only one out there who is completely ecstatically that fringe is still hot hot hot!! As the saying goes if loving fringe is wrong, then I don't want to be right. Thank you Junk Gypsy! As the temperatures slowly start to cool down and pumpkin everything clouds your mind I thought I would bring to you a few of my favorite fringed bags.

Of course some are way, and I mean way way out of my price range it's still fun to look. I always enjoy finding a pieces out of my budget and tracking down a similar more inexpensive alternative. But, then if you spend a little more you always get a little more. Great quality leather products last a lifetime. My mom has a purse that she purchased in the early 80s and it is still in great shape. And hones the older something is the more I like it! Vintage leather is absolutely timeless in my eyes. Gorgeous tooling and fringe are timeless in any cowgirl's book. Adding conchos, beaded work, feathers, and painting make it all the better. There is just something in the intricate detailing and time taken to bead anything! I for one do not have the patience or the talent to do so. I salute and may be a bit jealous of these gifts some of you possess. This also goes along with all you talented gals who can took the heck outta some leather.

I'm so happy we live in a time where the rest of world sees what true western fashion is. I tire of people from town thinking that I wear my high waisted Rockies or my fat babies everyday. Not that there is anything wrong with these, but they are just not for me! Western fashion is so much more, and there are many different avenues. There are leather artisans, handmade boot makers, hat makers, and the list goes on. And no I'm not talking about Kenny Cheney crunched up hats!! The western fashion industry is full of very high end gorgeous pieces. I'm so proud that mainstream fashion is getting a true glimpse through the fringe, turquoise , and so on. We are real women who bust our butts out there alongside the boys. We can get dirty and we can clean up more than well. We are the women who feed this country. We are talented artist, horse women, cooks, photographers, cattle raising fashionistas! I'm proud of my cowboy heritage, and I want to spread my love near and far. I want to inspire others to do the same. We are few left of a dying breed. We have to show the world that we are a proud few, and why this is best way of life there is! There is just nothing better than waking up and watching the sun come up on horseback and the sweet smell of mesquyt trees, and the sound of a bull bat. My love is strong!

Now I will step down of my soap box...thanks for sticking in there with me through that. I hope y'all have a wonderful Thursday! What are some of your favorite western designers, women western artist, leather workers? I would love to hear from you!

XOXO,

Jordan

Come on Fall!!

So there is a cool front moving on through Texas this bringing rain and highs in the low 80s!! That's what I'm talking about! I'm  so ready for Fall. I made a Hobby Lobby trip for some new Autumn home d├ęcor. This just topped off my obsession with the next season of life.
This all being said, I thought I would bring you one of my favorite purchases from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale and a great piece for your fall and winter look. There are so many great ways that you can wear this knit sweater. It has such a chic look that can really be worn in any fashion you might like. I love when the worlds of fashion and comfort join and this sweater is definitely that ! I paired it with a simple pair of black leggings from Target. Any pair of jeggings or skinnies would just as perfect! Adding a little turquoise in the mix gives you more of a western fashion look. I could just see myself in this look roaming the streets of Sante Fe. That is one of my favorite places ever to go! There is such great culture and art to be seen. I couldn't complete this look without my favorite fringe booties! Fringe is still so hot this season, and us country ladies are always happy to hear that!
What are some of your favorite things about fall? I could seriously go on and on, but that might take all night!! There is football, crock pot recipes, pumpkin spice, leggings, and boots just name a few of my favorite things!
I hope the cold front hits your part of the country. We all could use a little break from this summer heart. Have a great Tuesday!!
XOXO,
Jordan

STRESSED WELL DRESSED & COFFEE OBSESSED

TEE || sold out THE ROLLIN J   similar HERE
DENIM || similar H&M
HEELS || HERE
Happy Monday! I hope y'all had a great weekend! I know we sure did with the  Ranch Roundup and family time. Cameron's parents and sister came to visit for the weekend and wound up taking Miss Pecos Jane home with them. I already miss her, but it's her Lolli's and Rara's last week of SUMMER, so how could I say no?! Along with a great weekend always come the dreaded MONDAY!!
Mondays don't always have to be terrible! Especially when you can rock this adorable graphic tee from my all time fave, The Rollin' J Boutique. It has the comfort of the a t-shirt, but with a very elegant sheer back. When you pair it with your favorite skinnies and caged heels it takes your Monday blues to your Monday grooves!! Add a whole lotta coffee and hot pink lips and you're ready to rock the week!!
By the way this is the beginnings of my coffee bar that I've been planning for our bedroom. I found this great antique hutch at my favorite local hang out Alley Cat Mercantile. It takes time to perfect kick knacks. I do love my "COFFEE" letters that I got from Southern Junk out of Paris Texas. They too offer great vintage finds and  furniture refurbishing.
What were your plans this weekend? Any exciting things going on this week? I hope you have a great Monday and even greater week!
XOXO,
Jordan

Floral Maxi Dress

Happy FRIDAY!! We made it my friends, it's the weekend! And it is a fun one at the Finney household. Tonight we are taking the kiddos to their very first Ranch Roundup. Pecos has been talking for two weeks about the "ranch radio." Kids say the cutest things ever! This is about the only time Cameron gets off the ranch besides the occasional run to the Browse Shop or Academy. He is such an old  man, but I sure love him!

I've been wanting to share this dress with y'all on the blog for sometime now. I seriously have worn the heck outta this thing. I also feel it'll be a great dress coming into Fall. Not only is it incredibly comfortable and I have worn it just lounging around, but it's the perfect dash of Boho. I seriously have come home from the hair shop and changed out of my jeans and put this dress on the relax, You can pair a great pair of wedges or sandals with it as well. Drenching it in turquoise sure makes it even more so my favorite? I actually bought this exact dress from an Instagram shop called Poppy and Dot. You have to follow them closely to score one of their great pieces. I did find you a very similar dress HERE

If you are going to be at the Ranch Roundup I'd love to meet you! I'm very excited about seeing people I haven't seen since last year, shopping, and a date night with my husband Saturday night. We haven't had a date since we went to Sante Fe in February. Life is fast and outta control when you're the wife of a rancher. There are always mouths to feed, cattle to be caught, and kiddos to be taken care of.

Oh, and yes for the time being there is a little pink in my hair. I have been good for so long. I thought it might be a little fun to add a little funk! You only live once and I'm gonna live it to the fullest!

Happy Weekend!

XOXO,

Jordan

Wild Flower Freelance Makeup Artistry: Ranch Roundup Inspiration

God shook his head the day he built her, the wife of a workin' man and mother of a two-year old ranch hand in training. Lauren is currently studying at Midwestern State University majoring in Psychology and minoring Sociology, and has future plans of attending graduate school and pursuing a career in Clinical Psychology.  In the mean time she juggles homework, housework, a tot, and she also is a freelance make-up artist. She finds joy in Jesus music, good horses, adventure, and all things drenched in heavy fringe. She is the owner of Wild Flower Freelance Make-Up Artistry and believes in never giving up on your dreams; no matter how stupid they may be.

"I figure, if a girl wants to be a legend she should go ahead and be one." -Calamity Jane

When discussing make-up there is a stigma behind the products and the application in the ranch world. Often times it is seen to be superficial, materialistic, or trying to seek attention. Growing up and participating in rodeo queen pageants, I am familiar with hearing the cheeky comments made by some of the other girls that were participating in other events. I found myself becoming insecure about how I looked and putting on make-upbecause of the stereotype that came with it. Now looking back I can’t help but smile when seeing some of those girls that once demeaned my capabilities, wearing bright red lipstick and heavy, black winged-out eyeliner themselves. Now I am here to tell you, that there is NOTHING wrong with red lipstick, heavy eye-liner, fake lashes, what ever it may be, the truth is…it WASHES OFF. It also doesn’ttranslate into anything other than products. It doesn’t mean that you can’t hold your own while working with the guys, nor does it mean that the horses you ride aren’t worth anything because you look like Dolly Pardon, it simply means that you decided to take a little extra-time to put on some lip-gloss and mascara to make yourself feel better. With that being said, Ranch Round-Up is a time that people gather from all across Texas to watch and enjoy all of the festivities of the ranch rodeo. It is also a busy time for those participating, as the events range from early morning, followed up with the ranch rodeo at night. The wives, or the women participating often times find themselves juggling kids, schedules, horses, and their bigger kids (a.k.a. husbands), and don’t always remember to save some time to groom themselves. I have created two make-up looks that will be quick to throw on for the daytime and then, with a few minor touch-ups, transition into nighttime. The important thing to remember is to have fun with these, and to fixate the tips to your personal look. Also, don’t forget to tell the random woman who may not have had the time to get herself ready because of her crazy schedule, that she too, looks beautiful. It’s hard to be super-women, let’s cut each other some slack and empower the women aroundus!

Now, without further ado:

Daytime:

1. Moisturizer/Primer- It is important that while out in the beaming Texas sun to make sure there is a layer of moisturizer or primer on the skin before applying any type of make-up. I hate to admit it, but I love to feel the sun touching my skin, and I have freckles and signs of early aging to prove it. By keeping the skin moisturized it not only will pro-long your make-up, it will also help block the harmful UV rays from damaging your skin and enlarging your pores. It also gives a nice subtle glow to the skin, and can be worn alone if you want to enhance the beautiful skin you were born with. If you prefer BB or CC creams those will also work here as well.
2. Foundation- This is an optional step, depending on what kind of gal you are. After trying out and testing all different types of brands, I have found one that truly looks like my skin, but better. The Too Faced, Born This Way’ foundation has to be ranked number one in my book of foundations right now. It also is sweat-proof when applying powder over top of the foundation, and is medium coverage but is buildable for those of you who prefer the air brushed look. I have normal-to dry skin, and have found girls that may be a bit oily very pleased with this foundation as well. I have found myself reaching for this foundation on a daily basis (which is rare for me).

Application: I put a few droplets all over my face, (I especially love when my husband catches me doing this part, the look on his face is priceless). Then using a DAMP Beauty Blender, I simply push it in all over my face to get into the pores. Then, I follow up with any kind of translucent or foundation powder for fuller coverage. Tip: Make sure to apply products that are of a creamy consistency BEFORE adding powder. For example, if you also would like to highlight your face with concealer, apply the concealer first and then powder on top. If not, your foundation/concealer will look cake-y and will enhance flaws and pores.

3. Bronzer- For a girl who loves her bronzer, I am having a hard time narrowing it down to just one. I have found all types of bronzers that work well for my make-up routine ranging from drug storeto high-end and love each one of them with different looks. My suggestion for a bronzer in this weather would be one that is waterproof. I currently wear the Amazonian Clay WaterproofBronzer by Tarte on a day-to-day basisIt isn’t too warm, or too cool-tone, this bronzer is the perfect shade to make your skin appear as if the sun has naturally kissed it—without the damage.

Application: Sweep over the lifted areas on the facewhere the sun would naturally hit (temples, cheek-bones, and jaw-line) to create dimension. In other words, make a cursive ‘E’ on each side of the face with a big powder brush to create an easy-bronzed look.

4. Brow-gel/Brow-pencil- Brows are often time underestimated when applying make-up. It also can be very intimidating because we have all seen the harsh, black brow that makes a person look mad all the time. I promise, it is not scary and will polish off your daytime look entirely. Personally, I use and recommend the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz for an eyebrow pencil because of the easy-applicator and natural color it gives the brows. It also is really hard to mess up, and they will stay on amongst your sweat while dancing the night away to Jake Hooker & The Outsiders. I then follow-up with the brow-gel, also by Anastasia Beverly Hills to keep those CrAzY little hairs in place.

Application: Using the brow pencil, simply shade inthe areas that have less hair for a more natural approach. Once you have the desired amount of product on the brow, follow up with the brow-gel to keep tame.

5. Eye-Shadow/Lashes- Finally, my favorite part of applying make-up. By enhancing the eyes, it takes a make-up look to a whole other level. For this particular daytime look it is crucial to find a neutral eye-shadow shade of your choice to blend out into your crease. Personally, I love the matte-eye shadow palettes such as the Tartlette, by Tarte. Feel free to go crazy here and blend out as many colors as your heart desires. By laying down the neutral shade first, it makes all of the other colors blend easier and more sufficiently to create a subtle enhancement to the eye. I also encourage you to try blending a thin line of a darker neutral eye-shadow shade under the eye. This also may sound scary at first, and might intimidate you while applying it, but trust me; it tops eye-liner (and is more time sufficient) in my book any day of the week!  Follow up with curling your lases using an eye-lash curler (optional) and then coating your lashes of your choice of mascara. My all-time favorite mascara is the Better Than Sex mascara, also by Too Faced.

Application: Using a crease-blending brush, apply a small amount of a neutral shade of eye-shadow into the crease of the eye, and as Jaclyn Hills says, “Blend! Blend! Blend!” This step requires no thought or prestigious flick of the brush, just simply slap on some color and go, (Because if you’re like me, at this point your husband and child are waiting impatiently in the truck for you to “hurry up!” ;) ). Using a smaller bristled brush, lightly apply a darker eye shadow shade underneath the eye, then follow up by blending it with the crease-brush you originaly started with.Feel free to blend this into the crease as well. Apply as much mascara that fits your fancy. If you really want to vamp up the lashes, apply some cheapie-but-goodie Ardell WhispiesThey are sure to make the eyes pop!

6. Final Touches- After all make-up is put down, apply a high-lighter (current favorite- Becca, Champagne Pop ) and highlight the top of the cheek bones, under the eye-brow, around the cupids bow, tip of the nose, and whatever else you feel needs some shineThen apply a gloss or chap stick over top of the lips to bring life back into the face. It’s amazing what a tad bit of color on the lips can bring to your whole face. After applying all of the make-up that you plan on wearing during the day, take a brush and simply blend out any harsh-lines that you may notice. Then apply a finishing spray to hold the entire look into place for the entire day.

When transitioning daytime looks into nighttime it can be tricky, especially when time is of the essence. I recommend packing a few things in your purse or bag to apply in the evening to polish up your face for your evening look.

1. Black/Brown eyeliner- Whether you choose to do a wing or simply outline the lash line, liquidor pencil eyeliner will deepen the eye-look even more.
2. Blush- sweeping a small amount of pinky/peachy tones to the cheek; it creates even more dimension to the face, and makes your smile look radiant.
3. Lip liner/ lipstick-Apply a liner all over the surface and lip-line of the lips to prevent the lipstick or lip gloss of your choice from running and also elongating the life of the lipstick while taking those much-needed sips of Coors Light during the rodeo. My preferred choice of lip liner for day and night time is Lumiere by Colour Pop Cosmetics, and I like to put a light colored gloss on top such as White Russian by Buxom Beauty.
4. Favorite Eye Shadow Pallete- Use deeper shades in the crease area, and outer corners of the eye to create more drama, and will make your eyes pop even more than before. Once again, this is the fun part…use whatever shades your little heart desires. Just make sure to BLEND!

Whew! I hope I didn’t already frighten you with my wordiness, and details of each application step. It is hard to describe steps by solely relying on words. I plan on creating a YouTube channel in the future in order to better describe the application process. The important thing to remember when playing with make-up is to stay true to YOU, and to have fun! Do not feel obligated to wear a ton of make-up because those around you are, and don’t feel obligated to tone it down because you don’t want to be stereotyped. Embrace who YOU are and it will shine through on any occasion regardless of how much make-up you put on your face. Stay tuned for more make-up tips and tricks each month here on Western Homestead by freelance artist of Wild Flower Make-Up Atristry, Lauren West.

Ranch Round Inspiration

I'm

Good Wednesday morning! I'm so sorry it has taken me so long to get this look up on the blog for y'all! I've started back to the hair shop and I'm slowly finding my routine of juggling mom life, work life, wife life, and housework. I salute you full time working Mommas out there!!

No girl's closet is complete without a great sheer white blouse. These are key to your closet in any of the four seasons. It's light enough for summer that the breeze just hits the flowiness just right. During colder months it's great for layering. For this weekend I love piling on the turquoise to accessorize. You can keep it simple or bring out the squash blossoms. If you're like me you can never have enough turquoise cuffs. There is no such thing as too much turquoise, so just have fun with it!

The denim in this look are the Vera Wang jeggings. I love these simply because I can pair them with a cute oversized graphic tee or with a great chic blouse and they never fail me. They come at great price and you can get them at Kohl's.

These booties are brand new to my closet! I scored these beauties from the Nordstrom Rack for $49. They're originally $75! I love shopping Nordstrom Rack because you can always find great quality fashion at a discounted price. On Instagram I had a flood of questions about them! They are the perfect Fall booties for us Western Style loving girls. They are chic with a dash of fringe to make them perfect in my book. I know I'll be wearing the heck outta them this Fall and Winter!

Stayed tuned for makeup looks from a guest on the blog, Lauren West. She will bring us some great daytime and evening looks that will last through the warm days and dancing nights for the Ranch Roundup! Subscribe to Western Homestead by entering your email in the space above to never miss a post!! I have some very exciting things in store for the future and you're not going to want to miss them!!

Ranch Roundup: Outfit #1

Happy Friday everybody!! It's that time of year again, yes it's time for the Ranch Roundup! This is seriously one of my favorite times of the year. It's great watching the ranches compete, fun shopping, and most of all seeing people you haven't seen since last year. Along with all the fun comes the need of great outfits!

This cheeky tank is a repeat from this past winter, but I felt it was so fitting for the occasion. "Miss Texas Prison Rodeo" never ceases to get the conversation started. My father gives me disapproving glances every time I wear it. Honestly the rebel within me just soaks that look in and makes me want to wear it everyday. Please don't tell Pecos I do things to make my father crazy still as a mother. It has a great fit one me now that I went from a cup D to an A after breastfeeding. This tank runs very small. I'm wearing a size large. It has the cutest accent of lace trim around the neckline and arms.

The denim in this look are my absolute new favorite! This fall the 70s are back. I love the flare look...I've always been a flower child. These jeans come from Madewell. I can honestly say I've never spent this amount on a pair of jeans till I met these. Let me tell you, they are well worth it. They are a great asset to your closet to where you can create so many different looks.

Nothing tops off a look like turquoise and a great clutch. Not only is turquoise timeless and beautiful most of the time there are great stories and memories behind each piece. Most of the pieces I wear were my grandmother's and my mom's. I have one special piece that Cameron gave me for our anniversary this last year when we visited Sante Fe.

I have a few more looks to share with you. I'm very excited about the next look. As this look is fun and kinda edgy, the next outfit will be simple and more on the classy side. I'm telling you, that is why it's so fun being a girl! Expressing yourself through your clothes is my favorite form of self expression!!

What are some things that you wear that still make your parents cringe? Do you have any favorite memories from your turquoise collection?
